Whether you have had a problem with telemarketers or even threatening calls, reverse phone lookups are the first step to dealing with telephone harassment. Many people don't know what to do and change their phone numbers unnecessarily, but you don't have to be a victim. Reverse phone searches provide information about the number from which the calls originate, allowing you to reclaim your security and phone line from your own home.

Telephone harassment comes in several forms. First, of course, is the classic prank caller and other non-threatening but very annoying frequent caller; most people are also familiar with telemarketers, who, when operating outside federal guidelines, can be downright harassing. There are also the less frequent but often more serious callers who blackmail or threaten their victim in any way. No matter what type of calls you have been receiving, there are different ways to stop the abuse, and the first step is always reverse phone lookups.

Once you have recorded the offending phone number using Caller ID, you can tell a few things about it before you do anything else. The area code is the first indication of the caller's location. If you recognize those first three digits, this might be a sign you know the individual. More likely, of course, you will not recognize the area code or the area code tells you nothing; fortunately, reverse phone searches are a great resource. They can tell always tell you what kind of phone-landline or cell phone-the call originated from simply by entering the ten-digit number in the search field. If it is a landline number, you are in luck, and will need to go no further to find out the name and address connected to the number. If the caller uses a cell phone, you will need to use a reverse cell phone lookup, which might cost a small fee, to locate the information. Either way, the internet makes many resources easily available for those who are trying to stop telephone harassment.

Once you search a phone number and find out the name and address connected with it, you have a lot of options available. Depending on the type of call, you can take personal action, report the individual's information to the police, or, in the case of telemarketers, participate in online complaint and blacklisting services. No matter what kind of telephone harassment you are suffering, the first step is to find out more information, and reverse phone lookups are the first step.
